What is Disc Golf?
Welcome to one of the fastest growing sports in America: Disc golf. It's been around since the mid 1970's. Disc Golf is played on a marked course, typically in a public park. The object is to complete each hole in the fewest number of throws just like regular golf. Special golf discs are used (similar to a Frisbee) instead of a ball. Throws start from a tee area toward a basket made of galvanized steel and a chain assembly all mounted on a pole. As players progress down the fairway, they make their next shot from where their previous throw landed. The trees, shrubs, and terrain changes located in and around the fairways provide challenging obstacles for the golfer. Finally, the "putt" lands in the basket to complete the hole.
Disc golf is a sport for all ages from less than 8 to 80 to play. Divisions range from Men to Women, Amateurs to Pros and Juniors to Seniors making it one of the greatest lifetime fitness sports available. What some people refer to as Frisbee Golf, has evolved into a worldwide sport with over 2700 courses. Because disc golf is so easy to learn, no one is excluded. Players merely match their pace to their capabilities, and proceed from there.
